Collection: Louis Dollarhide Collection

Louis Dollarhide was a professor of English at the University of Mississippi, whose correspondence began when he wrote a letter to O’Connor praising her stories and her writing. The collection contains four letters from O’Connor from September 1957 to April 1964. There are also two letters from Regina Cline O’Connor dated 1964 and 1965.

In O’Connor's letters she thanks Dollarhide for his positive comments and reviews, declines an invitation to speak at the Southern Literary Festival, and thanks him for the Bellamann Foundation award she received. She also mentions a book on which Eudora Welty was working.

The notes from Regina Cline O’Connor thank Dollarhide for his sympathy after O’Connor's death and mention that O’Connor was working on a book of stories when she died. She also thanks him for a “protest review” he apparently wrote about O'Connor in 1965.
